Self-Drive Dog Sledding

This tour is provided by Tromsø Villmarkssenter

Do you want to participate in a thrilling and exhilarating activity? Dogsledding is loved by both locals and tourists and lets you enjoy nature in an entirely new way.

Did you know that dog sledding was once the main form for transportation in the arctic regions?

How does dogsledding work?

The sled is typically driven by a musher, who stands on the back of the sled and uses voice commands and physical cues to direct the team of dogs.

Sled dogs are typically large, powerful breeds with thick coats, such as Alaskan Malamutes and Siberian Huskies. These dogs are known for their endurance, strength, and intelligence, and require regular exercise and training to stay in top condition.

Just imagine standing on the sled, feeling the cold air hit your face as you race through the forest with the arctic scenery whichever way you look. With self-driving dog sledding in Tromsø you get to try out as a musher, controlling the dogs and the sled.

Learning about the basics before dog sledding on your own

When you first arrive to go dog sledding, Tromsø Villmarkssenter will make sure to get you thermal overalls so you do not freeze your ass out in the cold.

Before heading out, experienced dog sledding guides will show you how to handle the sled.

Do not miss out on dog sledding in Tromsø

Dogsledding truly is a unique and exciting activity that offers both humans and dogs a fun and challenging way to enjoy the great outdoors.

During the dog sledding in Tromsø through us you will have your own sled to drive along with a friend, then switch in the middle of the track.

Two guests share a sled with 5-7 dogs. Professional guides will lead the group in a separate sled.

How about food when you go dog sledding?

After a ride out in the Norwegian winter a meal of Bidos, prepared with reindeer meat, broth and vegetables is just what the body needs (vegetarian meal available upon request).
